Apple pie and Cheddar is a given. However, let’s not forget how enjoyable and truly satisfying a simple, good fruit can be. Sometimes, you don’t need a slice of pie; a bite of the apple will do. Add melted Cheddar on a slightly crusty bread and you’ve got yourself a taste and texture experience that is sure to soothe any snack attack. It also makes a great side dish.
Ingredients:
Baguette, cut in 24 slices
2 apples, chopped, unpeeled (we recommend a tart apple)
3/4 cup shredded Cheddar
1/4 cup grated Romano
1/3 cup mayonnaise
Sunflower seed to taste (or chopped nuts of choice)
Pepper to taste
Instructions:
1- Mix all ingredients (except baguette), keeping sunflower seeds and pepper for last and adding both to taste.
2- Warm baguette slices for 4 minutes at 350°. Turn and warm an additional 4 minutes.
3- Spread each slice with the cheese mixture and return to 350° oven for about 10 minutes (until slightly bubbly). Serve cold or warm.
